Swans in Autumn Reflections

I stopped by Lake Padden on the way to the boardwalk. And I’m so glad I did! There was magic there! A flock of trumpeter swans was on the lake, quietly floating around in the autumn reflections.

Oh! There They Are!

Skagit County, Washington State: First, I heard them – a great wild cacophony of honks and squawking. And then I saw them – in perfect formations of “V” flying above me. I knew that somewhere near by there was a field filling with snow geese. I grabbed my camera and set off in my trusty little Ford Fiesta, Rosalita Ipswich O’Molenovich, to see if we could find them. I drove down Worline, turned right on Sunset, turned left on Chuckanut, and right on Field Road. No geese anywhere. Well, that was alright. I thought – I’d just drive to the end of Field and then go up Farm-to-Market to Edison and grab my mail at the post office.

And then – magic!!! As I was coming near the end of Field Road I started seeing more geese flying above me and then, at the end of Field Road, there was a field full of them – thousands and thousand of snow geese honking, flapping, gliding, feeding, taking off and landing. It was AWESOME!

Here are some photos…

(In one of the photos below you’ll see a bald eagle flying with the snow geese. I think he’s the reason they ARE flying, actually.)

Rainbow, Barn, and Bay

It was drizzling when I left the house, but I was determined to take a walk along Padilla Bay today – come hell or high water. And I found magic, my friends. As soon as I pulled into the muddy parking lot the rain stopped and a rainbow appeared over the bay…

On my way back from my walk I spied a bald eagle sitting in a tree near the road. I pulled over and snapped a photo and then he took off – and I caught a quick shot of him glaring at me indignantly as he flew to a tree on the other side of the road. (I apologized to him for intruding on his privacy.)
